Overview

Historical Background
La Pinta was the fastest of the three ships in Columbus’s fleet, alongside Santa María and La Niña. Built in Palos de la Frontera in Spain, it often led the expedition due to its speed and agility.
During the 1492 voyage, La Pinta played a key role in the Atlantic crossing. It was the ship from which the first sighting of land was famously reported on 12 October 1492. After the expedition, it was also the first of the three vessels to return to Europe, arriving in Bayona in March 1493.
