Italeri 1/72 Focke-Wulf FW 190 A-7/A8 ACES 1490
Overview
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 was one of the most significant fighter aircraft developed during the Second World War. Entering production in 1941, the Fw 190 became, alongside the Messerschmitt Bf 109, one of the most recognisable aircraft operated by the Luftwaffe. With over 20,000 units produced, it played a major role in Germany’s air operations throughout the conflict.
The A-8 variant represented a key development of the design and entered production in early 1944. It was powered by a BMW 801 D-2 twin-row, 14-cylinder radial engine producing 1,700 horsepower, enabling the aircraft to achieve a top speed of 653 km/h. An injection system allowed engine output to exceed 1,900 horsepower for short bursts, enhancing performance in combat situations.
Heavily armed, the Fw 190 A-8 was equipped with two MG 131 machine guns and four 20 mm MG 151 cannons, making it a formidable presence in the air. The aircraft was flown by many of the Luftwaffe’s most accomplished pilots, contributing to its reputation as one of the most effective fighters of the war. This model kit represents the aircraft with multiple marking options associated with notable Luftwaffe aces.
