Italeri 1/72 CANT Z.1007bis Alcione 1479
Overview
The CANT Z.1007 Alcione was a three-engine medium bomber developed by Filippo Zappata and introduced into service in the late 1930s. It became one of the most widely used aircraft of the Regia Aeronautica during the Second World War, operating across multiple theatres including the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and North Africa.
Distinguished by its wooden construction and characteristic Italian tri-motor layout, the aircraft was powered by three 1,000 hp Piaggio P.XI radial engines. This configuration enabled it to reach a maximum speed of 450 km/h while carrying an offensive payload of up to 1,200 kg within an internal bomb bay. Its design balanced performance with operational flexibility, making it suitable for a variety of missions.
The aircraft typically operated with a crew of five, though this could increase to six when assigned to reconnaissance or maritime patrol duties with the addition of a photographic operator. Widely regarded as one of the most effective medium bombers in Italian service, the CANT Z.1007 earned a strong reputation for its capabilities throughout the war. This model kit represents a single version of this notable aircraft and includes a comprehensive decal sheet for multiple schemes.
